can i play Windows XP games On Windows Vista?
Will any of the games that are released for Windows XP editions be able to be played on the new Windows Vista editions (like The Sims 2)? Yes, the bulk of games will work on Vista. I've tried a couple of dozen and have only found one that doesn't at the moment. -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK.

Fortunately i just bought my PC so i do not have many games, I understand the problems could possibly be caused by trying to run XP games on vista or having DX10 installed, but it puzzles me, why release an improved system(vista), if older games are not going to run. I really don't understand why so many people are having problems with some of their older games, unless it is simply that they are unusually old, such as DOS games, early Windows games, and pre-XP games. The pre-XP Windows architecture is simply not compatible with Vista. IN fact, ANY software which is not 100%

And FYI, almost all of my older XP games and software run fine under Vista. Some requiring minor tweaks, but nothing very daunting to do. I had my old XP box up and running for over 5 years, but it was at the end of it's meaningful life at that point, IMO. It was time to update hardware/software with a new system.

Vista licence: punishment for frequent upgraders?
The problem - for you games boffins - is that you can't aim your designs at a guy who's willing to keep a Win98 box around for DOS games, and an XP box around for NT/2K/XP games, and a Vista box for newer games. Why not? With today's VMs it's not difficult to throw up another OS, and archive it to DVD until needed.
